100 PERCENT NY -- A/W 2012

most recent project | a collaboration with 100 percent NY for the A/W 2012 season

I hand-knit four pieces using a blend of Bartlett wool yarn and shetland from the

Hudson Valley Sheep & Wool Co. | dress knit in the round using a series of stitches.

wool roving knit-in at points for both texture and to act as a sort of fusible at shoulders.

tank knit in the round | stitches include knit, purl, a twisted rib,

a looped bobble stitch and wrapped jersey and purl stitches

the sweater | main focus being the sleeves, which are engineered to serpentine

around the arm and end on a straight cuff. linked seam on the outside

to define the spiral. mock turtle neckline.

back of the body contains more openwork looped stitches,

while the front of the work is filled in more with stitch work, only being

looped towards the shoulders in a sort of sweetheart shape. So, the front

of the sweater body had to be engineered with more courses, to account

for the longer stitch length on the back of the body & balance out the hem.

most recent | "limestone" roving from the sheep

and wool festivel knit at hem, then wet/needle felted.

Felted portion transitions into knit Icelandic Lopi from the

Hudson Valley Sheep and Wool Co. in Redhook.

Knit-in of machine knitting poly/mohair blended yarn

swatch from last year I never photographed |

mohair yarn blended with a cotton crochet thread in a webby drop

stitch and pointelle stitch. Bits of sparkly red embroidery thread in parts.

WIND!

gave this wet-felted collar new life.

added blanket-stitch edging around the neckline in light blue thread,

re-needle felted the whole piece over a bunch of times to fill weak spots and

add a bit of thickness to it. Also felted in a spell of silk-wool given to me by

my friend Natalya last time I had a few folks over for dinner. The whole chunk

of this hair looks like a lock from a unicorns mane, its really, really brilliant

in light and ultra soft. finally added that snap at the center too!

these winds are bringing me some positive energy...

real productive few days hanging round the house with the threat

of a hurricane moving through NYC. lots of excitement, but things by

me never got too serious. a whole lot of beautiful winds and mists though

inspiring work inside.

LOGO

I've been collaborating with Morgan Winter the past week or so on

the design for my logo. Inspiration was a mix of hieroglyphic text and the work of

Michal Rovner-- with a play on a human figure, oversized knitting needles and my

initials. The preliminaries turned out brilliant! It was so hard to choose... but after

some thought we decided on #13.

Next, Morgan got to work, carving a stamp with the logo silhouette out from a baby

potato. I was so intrigued by the sound of this process when she first told me,

and, after only one day passed, I was sent all of these really great photos

of the new stamps and what they can do!

so cool!!!

Next idea was applying a rock texture or printing on rock

like Michal does. It not only goes along with the coloration, texture and

inspiration to my work, but also brings it into the world, grounds it.

Printed on some pet rocks from my collection. This one above is my favorite favorite,

I can't even believe it exists

Hopping a bus to PA with the gang for a 4th of July bash at

Morgan's place this Sunday! Can't wait to thank her in person with a great bear hug

and relax a bit on the grass. Maybe even see some stars for a change ;)
